John Michael Leverett has been an integral part of Panoz Auto Development for many years. He currently serves as Director of Engineering and oversees all research and development. John is also a member of the board of directors. Automobiles have always been an important part of John Michael Leverett’s life. He learned about cars as a youth from his father, John Anthony Leverett, who is also a part of the Panoz team. John began his engineering career at Georgia Tech and continued at Southern Polytechnic State University, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While there, John founded the Southern Tech Formula SAE program where students build and race a Formula 1 style car against teams from 75 other universities. He won the prestigious Ben C. Sparks Award for his work on that project. Over the years, many young Panoz engineers have been part of the same SAE program that John created. After graduation, John began selling and driving Legend racecars for Atlanta Motor Speedway. He joined Panoz in 1994 as its sole engineer. John was instrumental in the use of aluminum technology in the A.I.V. Roadster, as well as the design and construction of the Esperante. John currently oversees and participates in the design and development of Panoz street and race vehicles. He also supervises the Engineers, Fabricators and Mechanics, who are responsible for prototyping and production implementation.
